Day 162 – April 1st

Today is April Fool’s day, a few years back this would have meant something to me and I would have probably played a few pranks, maybe some maturity has kicked in but I no longer feel like engaging in such activities………part of the reason could have been because of how I woke up…….I woke up with a swelling in my right knee, I already know what it is as I have been down this road numerous times before. 

I wanted to cry but chose not too…….I will take things relatively easy the next few days in the hope it will improve and I can get back on the squash court……it is 99% certain that I will pack squash in at the end of the year.  I think the official term for my injury is a strained patella tendon…..basically my knee cap no longer floats and there is a severe muscle imbalance as a result between my quad and hamstring. 

I can still remember vividly the first time I sustained this injury, I was probably around 15 years old and was kicking a goal for my High School Rugby team from right on the touchline at Kensington (Anyone who has played rugby for Crossley Heath School knows where Kensington), it sounded like a bullet being shot from a gun and I collapsed to the ground in agony…….it is fair to say that it was one of the defining moments of my life.

What else has happened today, Toronto finally got round to playing its first baseball game of the season and lost to the Yankees………Manchester United simply outclassed Roma in the European Cup…….and I didn’t do any kind of exercise because of the knee issue described above.

I did make some progress on cleaning my apartment though, and called Libia (Although she wasn’t home)…….but the biggest news of today concerns my mother who in all likelihood will probably not be retiring in the summer after all……..I wish I was financially secure enough to have the option of retiring although I guess I’m some distance away from that at the moment.

Tomorrow I will skip off work early in the afternoon to watch Liverpool and Arsenal battle in the champions league, will then meet up with Swiss Tony, and finish the day watch the Raptors play basketball…….hopefully the day will prove better than today.
