Day 186 – April 25th
I am getting more worried about my hip now as it doesn’t appear to be improving and it has now been giving me grief for over a week, I’ll see how it goes over the next few days and if it doesn’t improve will have to go and get it checked out.
Despite the hip issue, I went and played squash against the person I didn’t know and it turned out to be a relatively comfortable 3-0 win…….with the extra energy I did a shoulder workout and then came home and relaxed for the evening. I continue to plan for my mother’s visit in the summer and have so far secured tickets to the tennis and Dirty Dancing……..I will continue to work on the soccer and a few other things.
Whilst at the gym I got talking to one of the personal trainers and apparently when he was in England he was signed by Leicester City……whilst he never made it into a premiership game it’s quite the achievement to even make it to the squash……..this got me thinking about the pro sports leagues in North America and why there are so few teams…….the NBA has 30 teams, the NHL has 30 teams and the MLB 30 teams……whilst I realize there are farm teams and the likes I compare this to English soccer where the league is split into 7 divisions for a total of 160 teams and then there are feeder leagues below that…….the team I follow “Halifax Town” is currently ranked at number 112……..one of the things I miss about UK sport is the random nature of cup competition whereby a team such as Halifax Town could draw Manchester United and have the opportunity to create a massive upset. In North America it is a “massive” upset if a team ranked 1 loses to a team ranked 8 in the playoffs………….1 against 8……….as opposed to 1 against 112 not exactly the same thing is it.
Whilst I was looking through the baseball teams I noticed something interesting, it has 6 divisions and in 4 of them there are 5 teams, the other 2 have 4 and 6 teams respectivly…….what’s all that about, if anyone has the answer let me know.
Not much else appears to be going at the moment……..however looking around my apartment it can be best described as a “real shit heap”……..I’ll make some kind of effort to at least get it in some kind of shape over the weekend.
I seem to have been suckered into an ever expanding project at work that appears to be growing in both size and scope with every passing day……..despite this however the deadline appears fixed…….as Borat would say “Nice”.
As I write this I am burning up in my apartment, as we have not yet switched over to air conditioning and despite having both French Doors open and a so called stream of cool air passing through my apartment it remains at 27 degrees……..fortunately I didn’t do too much and spent most of the evening listening to the song “Somebody to Love”……….Live version with Queen, featuring George Michael…..if you want to listen a quality drum beat then this is certainly a song for you.
Mood for the day 6 out of 10 (Was actually a pretty good day but the hip is certainly bad news).
