Day 234 – Friday 13th

Today the first fruits of my monster project at work were finally born as a total of $40 Million landed in variety of employees accounts across the nation. To say I am now breathing a huge sigh of relief would be a massive understatement, whilst the project is far from over and there are far more complex tasks remaining there will be nothing in terms of single value of transaction that will match this.

In fact this is biggest single transaction I have ever created/processed……so it is quite the day. Whilst working for GM my largest vendor contract was for over $100MM however this was spread over all 5 years of the deal so each transaction whilst large was no where near $40 Million…………I will now lie down and have a heart attack.

With this out of the way and a huge weight having been lifted of my shoulders……I was psyched for volleyball and the team fed of my energy and whilst we split our matches winning the first 2-0 and losing the second 0-2 the team is in a decidedly better place than we were last week and hopefully have now lifted ourselves from the basement of the league and into the “pack” know as the midfield.

Following the matches drinks and dinner with a team member, it is good to meet some new people and watched the mother off electrical storms (Thunder and Lightening) pass through Toronto…..it was one of the most breathtaking things I have ever seen with the night sky being temporarily illuminated with flash of lightening that occurred.

As the epicentre of the storm passed directly overhead I briefly contemplated running outside to see if I could get struck by lightening………..looking it up on the web apparently the odds of being struck in a given year are approx 500,000 to 1. So whilst it is pretty unlikely you may as well give it a try. Fortunately common sense kicked in as I realised why would I want to get struck by lightening in the first place what possible benefit can there be.

In the same way that there is never a good time to catch on fire, I will also suggest that there is never a good time to get struck by lightening.
